Meet Our Student Government Association 2019-2020

The Student Government Association is the primary vehicle for student participation in University governance, as well as in student government. Students serve on most of the decision-making bodies of the University, including the Board of Trustees. Additionally, the right of student organizations to govern themselves within the framework of University regulations is respected in democratic processes. The Student Government Association (SGA) consists of an Executive Council, a House of Representatives, and a Judiciary Council. The Association has general responsibility for self-government, administers its own budget, and represents the students in various ways. Through various standing committees, SGA assists in providing services and programs for the student body, including student orientation, concerts, dances, lectures, films, and Homecoming activities.

Sydnei Patton

Sydnei Patton is a graduating senior majoring in Psychology and Spanish. Hailing from Kansas City, KS, she arrived at Fisk University in the fall of 2016 to pursue higher education. Currently, she humbly serves as the President of the Student Government Association which allows her to act as the liaison between the student body and the administration of the University. Along with this critical role on campus, she also serves as a student representative on the Fisk University Board of Trustees.

Jose Perez-Loredo

Jose Perez is a senior Biology major from Memphis, Tennessee. Along with serving as the VP, he also is a member of the Pre-Health Professions Club and a Fisk University Student Ambassador. Through his academic advisor, he's able to provide insight to fellow underclassmen pre-health majors through mentoring relationships and general assembly conversations. As a Fisk University Student Ambassador, he's developed close relationships with each year’s freshman incoming class by serving as a source for first-year student transition advice and experience lessons. Some of his hobbies include volunteering throughout the community and, most importantly, impacting his neighboring community’s youth through programs such as Andrew Jackson’s Bus Stop Strong.
