Biography

Joseph Watkins is in his fourth year at Fisk University as Chief of Staff and Operations. His roles within the Office of the President include administrating the day-to-day operations of the university, serving as President Kevin Rome’s proxy on campus in his absence, and leading campus-wide initiatives and special projects. Furthermore, Joseph Watkins has oversight of Information Technology Services, Human Resources, Events Management, and Shared Services.

Joseph comes to Fisk University after working for two years at Lincoln University as Chief of Staff to Dr. Rome. Watkins assumed similar duties at Lincoln and had oversight of Information Technology Services, the Police Department, as well as the Human Resources Department. Watkins was entrusted with coordinating several university-wide events, was part of a governmental advocating team which generated a 500 percent increase in state funding for the university’s land-grant status, as well as generated over $30,000 in sponsorship for Lincoln University Athletics.

Form 2013-2015 Joseph worked at Ohio University in several capacities including Alumni Relations Manager, Director of Bobcat Blackout and Green Fever, and Development Communications Manager for the Schey Sales Centre.

Watkins is a Virginia Beach, VA native, and graduated from North Carolina Central University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreational Sports Management with a Business minor. Joseph continued his education to receive his Master of Business Administration and Master of Sport Administration from Ohio University in 2015.
