Jose Perez
Student President
2019-2020 Vice President, Student Government Association
Jose Perez is a senior Biology major from Memphis, Tennessee. I currently serve as the Student Government Association’s Vice President for the 2019-2020 academic school year, as I wish to lead and assist in Fisk University’s evolution. On-campus, I am a member of the Pre-Health Professions Club and a Fisk University Student Ambassador. Through my academic advisor, I am able to provide insight to our underclassmen pre-health majors through mentoring relationships and general assembly conversations. I enjoy volunteering throughout the community and, more importantly, impacting our neighboring community’s youth through programs such as Andrew Jackson’s Bus Stop Strong. As a Fisk University Orientation Leader, I have developed close relationships with each year’s freshman incoming class in providing advice and experience lessons at Fisk University.
I intend on applying and attending medical school after receiving my Bachelor’s degree from Fisk University, as I aspire to become a physician. As a physician, I intend on advocating for and improving healthcare within minority communities. Through my research internship and shadowing opportunities at Vanderbilt University’s Medical Center, I was able to gain incredible insight and developed an interest in Cardiology and Pulmonology. My research work has centered around Asthma and allergy within children and pulmonary fibrosis within Veteran males. As a member of the Fisk-Vanderbilt School of Medicine BS/MD program, I have gained conditional acceptance into Vanderbilt University’s School of Medicine.
